Headwaters Relief Organization in Golden Valley now has a series of children’s books designed to help kids cope with traumatic situations like hurricanes or Ebola outbreaks. The books have become an important tool that staff members use during their disaster relief response.
Since 2010, Headwaters has come out with six children’s books. Each book features a central character who has experienced that community’s disaster and speaks the local dialect.
“The work with the books are very rewarding,” said Dr. Roshan Khatri, medical director at Headwaters Relief Organization. “We can see how it brings the positive vibe in the room when we’re using the books as a tool with the children and the families. So it’s a really rewarding, positive experience.”
The books have been written by different authors who have donated their time and talents.
