A six-year-old boy is missing after falling into the River Stour in Kent. The boy, who has been pictured and named locally as Lucas, was on a fishing trip with his family when the incident happened. His auntie said that his dad jumped into the water after him but couldn't find the youngster. Emergency services have been scouring the river in Sandwich, Kent since around 1.20pm today. The Coastguard helicopter has since been scrambled to the area as they still try tried to find the missing boy. Locals are also rushing to the scene to try and help with the search, with firefighters set to hold a briefing for them tonight. Kent Fire & Rescue Service said in an update shortly before 7pm: "A briefing for local people helping in the search for a missing 6 year old boy who has fallen in the river at Sandwich will take place at 19:00 (7pm) at Sandwich Fire Station, Ash Rd CT13 9HZ. "Those who are helping are advised to attend to understand how they can assist in the search in a safe way, without placing themselves at risk, especially as the light begins to fade. Thank you." The fire service had said earlier: "Emergency services are working together to search for a young child who has fallen into the River Stour close to Richborough Road and the A265 at Sandwich. "Crews, together with police officers and others are searching the river using the service boat. "The Coastguard helicopter is supporting from an aerial perspective." Reports online earlier suggested the boy was wearing a black and white t-shirt when he vanished. A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Kent Police was called to Richborough Road in Sandwich at 1.20pm regarding concern for the welfare of a child reported to have fallen in the River Stour. "A search is underway by officers and other emergency services including the Coastguard and Kent Fire and Rescue Service."
